Many people are wondering whether trick-or-treating can take place safely this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently classify “traditional trick-or-treating where treats are handed out to children who go door to door” as a higher risk activity, and they recommend avoiding the activity to help prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.
While trick-or-treating is never a Manor Creek-sponsored event, we recommend that residents strongly consider the CDC’s guidance. If you choose to participate in trick-or-treating, we encourage you to review the following suggestions from the CDC.
If you choose to offer candy/treats:
Line up individually-wrapped goodie bags on a table that trick-or-treaters can “grab and go,” such as at the end of the driveway or edge of the yard.
If you prepare goodie bags, wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before and after preparing the bags.
If you choose to be outside your home to monitor trick-or-treating, wear a face mask or covering and social distance from trick-or-treaters and those accompanying them.
Do not offer candy if you or someone in your household is currently or recently diagnosed with COVID-19, or if you or someone in your household was recently in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.
If you choose to trick-or-treat:
Wear a face mask or covering.
Walk only with people in your household.
Should the state of Kentucky or city of Louisville issue specific guidance, we encourage you to adhere to those recommendations. For the most up-to-date information as Halloween approaches, check this space and/or follow us on Facebook.
Thanks for your efforts to keep your neighbors safe and healthy!
